Dr. WONG Kwok Yiu, Chris

Dear HKCC Fellows, Members and Affiliates,

On behalf of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology, I am pleased to welcome you to visit our Homepage.

Established in 1992, the Hong Kong College of Cardiology devotes its mission to promoting the highest standard of care in cardiovascular medicine through scientific, professional and educational activities, and to enhance the awareness of heart health in the community.

Being an important cardiology institution recognized internationally, we strive to enhance collaboration among cardiac organizations, in particular for a closer relationship with our mainland counterparts. At the same time, we also continue mutually beneficial interactions with professional communities around the world.

Looking back at the first half year of 2011, I am proud to say that we have achieved very distinguished results. Besides the 19th Annual Scientific Congress which was successfully held in May, the College was one of the co-organizers of CardioRhythm 2011 in February, the 13th South China International Congress of Cardiology held in Guangzhou in April, jointly organized the 5th Congress of Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging with Hong Kong College of Radiologists in June, and Cardiovascular Interventional Summit which will be held in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition in November. An increasing number of participants were drawn from the professional communities in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other countries to these international cardiac meetings.

The College continues its involvement in the Hong Kong Heart Foundation Fellowship Programme, which supports local cardiology trainees to undergo advanced cardiology training in world renowned centers overseas.

The College has also been actively involved with community projects for heart health promotion. The Jump Rope for Heart program continues its recruitment of school children for promotion of heart health through rope skipping. Our annual highlight "World Heart Day" will be celebrated on 2 October 2011 with over 3000 participants are expected to join this meaningful event.

Besides, the College co-operated with Department of Health to launch a series of programs in order to enhance the public awareness of heart healthy diet. These included the "Fruit Day", "EatSmart @ School Campaign" and "EatSmart Community Programme". All had achieved effective outcomes.

The diversified and calendar-full activities organized by the College would not be successfully held without the dedication and active participation of its members, support of friends and the contribution of leading practitioners and academics both locally and abroad. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for their continuous support and effort.

Dr. WONG Kwok Yiu, Chris
